Junior Elites Win

Date:05 Nov 2009

Inaburra's Junior Cricketers have convincingly defeated Bankstown Grammar School in the Steve Small Trophy played at Thurina Park, Villawood. Inaburra amassed a total of 161 before routing the opposition for just 17 to seal the emphatic victory.

After being sent in to bat and losing an early wicket, Liam Strachan (41) and captain Emmanuel Shewan (38) set about building a solid platform for the innings. The pair demonstrated great communication and team work; their 71-run partnership including just two boundaries. A flurry of quick wickets appeared to have Inaburra troubled and the score stuttered to 7-103, however, patient knocks from Hayden Wallis (27) and Christian Briffa (17) ensured the total would be competitive.

Bankstown Grammar's innings was never given the chance to fire, with lightning opening spells from man-of-the-match Shewan (5-7) and Declan Lloyd (2-6) reducing the home side to 7-13 after ten overs. Oliver Selby (2-1) and Jonathan Aston (1-3) completed the demolition, Inaburra finishing with a 144-run victory.

Inaburra's Junior Criketers will defend their CSSA Super-8 title at the Gala Day on November 16th, before tarvelling to Terrey Hills to play Northern Beaches Christian School on 18th November.
