The Inaburra First XI Boys Football Team has qualified for the Independent Schools Football Cup semi-finals, where they will compete for their chance to claim the Cup for the first time.

Inaburra secured their place in the semi-final after winning against Hills Grammar School 3-0 in late July. This followed earlier wins against teams such as Trinity College, Bankstown Grammar and SCEGS Redlands.

The team has made an impressive comeback from their early knock-out in the first round last year and will go on to battle against Barker College early next month at Parklea Stadium for a place in the grand final.

Inaburra Sports Coordinator, Troy Dixon said the whole School is behind the team because of the pride the players having in representing Inaburra.

“We are so thrilled for the boys because they have worked very hard and deserve their place in the semi-finals,” Mr Dixon said.

“The boys are very excited, they love their football and the game is half of their world.  Many of the senior students are doing their HSC and they have worked hard to balance their study and sporting commitments,” Mr Dixon said.

The team Coach, Mr Phil Lucas has inspired the 16-student squad, made up of boys from Years 8 to 12, with pep talks before each game that motivate them into a strong and committed team.

Inaburra School Football Captain Sam Cornish said, “All the lads know it's about the crest on the chest. We put in for each other and play until the final minute”.
