School Reports

The school is very pleased to have introduced a new reporting format for Middle and Senior School students in Semester 1 of 2008. We trust that the report will be both informative and easy to understand. The federal government requires schools to compare the results of their students. In the middle school, Inaburra does this by awarding students a grade from A to E. In the senior school, students are given a rank compared to other students completing that particluar subject.

Calculating the A to E grade – The A to E grade for each subject is determined from the common tasks which the student has completed. Each of these tasks is weighted e.g. half yearly exam – 70%, assignment – 30% to determine the ‘overall result for semester 1 (or 2)’.

Each faculty will determine an appropriate cut off for each grade e.g. In Geography, a student will receive an A if s/he receives over 85% for the overall result, a B for an overall result between 75% and 85% etc. These cut offs are determined using ‘performance descriptors’. A performance descriptor is a list of what a student needs to achieve to be awarded a particular grade. For example, for a student to receive an A grade in Geography s/he must demonstrate an excellent ability to research geographical issues and complete geographical skills. Therefore, the geography teachers will look the marks for a particular year group, compare those to the performance descriptors and then determine that students who receive less than 85% have not met the requirements for an A grade. Because the performance descriptors are different for each subject, the cut offs for each subject will also differ, as will the number of A’s, B’s etc awarded.
