21st Century School Mandarin Project
Bilinguism in Mandarin
Mandarin is the primary language other than English studied at Inaburra. Our goal in this area is to provide the opportunity for students to become bilingual. In order to achieve this aim, we believe that we need to provide an opportunity for younger students, staff and parents to study Mandarin by :
- Providing optional Mandarin classes for teachers and parents.
- Planning the development of the Chinese room to coincide with the opening of the proposed new performing Arts Centre so that it becomes a specialist facility.
- Creating a second Chinese classroom.
- Addition of a Chinese facade to make the subject more visually prominent.
- Addition of a Chinese Garden in the proximity of the Chinese rooms.
- Introducing a program for educating staff members on an ongoing basis in Chinese culture and language.
- Teachers who are learning Mandarin in school will have study tours available to them.
- Free lessons in Mandarin for teachers on a weekly basis.
- A program will be initiated enabling parents to learn Mandarin alongside their children.
